A while ago I had a dream my blue lava lamp came to life like a Tsukumogami and licked my face. Tsukumogami are a type of Japanese Yokai (supernatural spirit). They are objects that have come to life after reaching 100 years old. Of course my lava lamps arenít that old, and I donít think this phenomenon can apply to new, electrical objects anyways. But it was so cute and I was inspired by this dream to paint all my lava lamps as if they were Tsukumogami. My favorite Tsukumogami is Karakasa Obake, an umbrella creature with one eye, one leg, and his tongue sticking out. I think this influenced how my lava lamp appeared to me in my dream. It was fun showing their personality in the painting and I always love painting bright colors and goopy stuff!
